"The Gospel According to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl"

My name is Angel. I just wanted to write you a letter to tell you how much I enjoy your work. My favorite Johnny Depp film is Benny and Joon. It is such a sweet love story. I'm inspired by the fact that it depicts two mentally challenged people who, despite all of the odds stacked against them, fall in love and lead successful and independent lives. I can relate in some ways to that story because I was born with Cerebral Palsy. This disorder affects that part of the brain which sends important messages to the body. Cerebral Palsy makes me unable to walk. In spite of all this, I have been very blessed. I'm a twenty-seven year old college student. I take online courses at home. I'm working toward my Associate degree in Psychology. Eventually, I want to earn a Master's and start my own practice.
Jesus Christ is the one who gives me hope and fulfillment everyday. Believe it or not, the message of what Christ did for you and I, is very similar to that of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. How? Let me explain. You see, from the beginning of time man has been cursed by sin. Why? The first couple (Adam and Eve), disobeyed God by eating forbidden fruit. I'm sure you've heard this story. Anyway, since then, the entire human race has disobeyed God in one way or another. So, just like the pirates were cursed, we were cursed. The Bible says in Romans 3:23 "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Just as the moonlight revealed the pirates curse, God knows when we sin. Numbers 32:23 says, "But if you fail to keep your word, then you will have sinned against the Lord, and you may be sure that your sin will find you out." So what's the good news? Well, I am glad you asked. Just like the pirates needed the blood of Will Turner to free them from the curse, the human race needed Jesus to free us from the curse of sin.
The Bible says in I John 2:2, "When he (Christ) served as a sacrifice for our sins, he solved the sin problem for good – not only ours but the world's. Galatians 3:13, "Christ has redeemed us from that self defeating, cursed life by absorbing it completely into himself. Do you remember the Scripture that says, cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree? That is exactly what happened when Jesus was nailed to the Cross: He became a curse and at the same time dissolved the curse."
Will Turner freed the pirates (until they got killed) and Jesus freed us, by his death on the cross. However, we have to accept the freedom Christ granted. Romans 10:9 says, "For if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
I love you Johnny. God has given you a special gift and he loves you too! My prayer is that you will accept the freedom Christ offers as I have. I'm a huge fan of yours and I would love to have an autographed picture of you. Thanks for reading.
All My Love,
Miss Angel Maffucci
